Prince of Glory Preschool and
Daycare
1357 W. 14 Mile Rd.
Madison Heights, MI 48071 |
Our preschool is a community outreach for Prince of Glory
Lutheran Church. We offer a developmentally based curriculum with a "hands on"
approach. Prince of Glory Preschool has been in operation since 1970.
The school is licensed by the Michigan Department of Consumer &
Industry Services and follows all state regulations. Church membership is not
required for attendance. Our preschool is nonprofit and nondiscri
minatory.
Prince of Glory offers a morning program for children ages 3-6*
(not yet in school). Classes meet September - May from 9AM - 11:30AM. The
3-year-old class, which meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings focuses on basic
skills, concepts and socialization. The 4-year-old class, which meets Monday,
Wednesday and Friday mornings, prepares children for kindergarten entry. Both
classes are taught with the idea that learning should be fun. Children are
encouraged to be creative and to try new things. A wide variety of activities
are offered everyday to stimulate children's imaginations.

Prince of Glory Preschool and Daycare, having
demonstrated substantial compliance with nationally
recognized Criteria for high-quality early childhood
programs, is accredited by the National Academy of Early
Childhood Programs, a division of the National Association
for the Education of Young Children. For more information

Each child should be toilet trained, but we will work with you
if your child is nearly there. The State of Michigan requires each child to be
current on required immunizations (or have a waiver signed by parent), and have
a medical report signed by your physician within 30 days of starting preschool.
Children must be at least three by December 1 to attend preschool.
OBJECTIVES
The primary objective of Prince of Glory Preschool is to
develop the whole child cognitively, emotionally, socially, and physically.
The curriculum is both developmentally and age appropriate.
Cognitive development is implemented into the curriculum
according to the age and developmental level of the child. Activities and
games that teach basic concepts of shape, color, pre-math, pre-reading
skills and early scientific investigation are included. Hands-on experience
and discovery are stressed in the curriculum.
Emotional growth is encouraged through formation of basic
trust in adults other than parents and family members, interaction with
peers, and nurturing of self-confidence and positive self-image.
Independence and autonomy is fostered by allowing each child to make choices
whenever possible. Typical childhood fears and sibling problems are some
emotional topics dealt with in stories and discussions.
Social interaction in large and small groups foster social
skills such as sharing, cooperation with others, and good manners.
Pre-social behavior is fostered through social play, role-playing, and
modeling. Respect for the rights of others and verbal assertiveness is
encouraged instead of physical aggression to solve problems.
Physical skills and muscle development are improved with use
of the balance beam, climber, slide, balls and blocks; both indoors and
outdoors when weather permits. Music, movement and games are played which
help to develop running, jumping, hopping and other basic skills. Small
muscle coordination is developed by use of art and craft materials such as
paint, crayons, markers, scissors, paste and glue; as well as puzzles, peg
boards, building toys and other manipulatives.
An important objective of our preschool is to foster
creativity and self-expression through role-playing in the housekeeping and
dress-up areas, indoor and outdoor sandbox, block corner and puppet theater.
This goal is also attained through planned art activities, which are
designed to stimulate creativity through paint and paper projects and
experimentation with other forms of creative media. Children are encouraged
to express their own ideas both verbally and artistically.

Teachers plan stimulating activities in these areas: music
and movement, games, stories, finger-plays, songs, and role-playing.

manipulative toys, sand and water play, playdough and clay, drawing with

Prince of Glory's daycare program operates year-round from 7AM -
6PM, Monday - Friday. We offer developmentally appropriate activities designed
to meet the needs of each child from age 6 weeks to 6 years. Our caring staff
and low child-to-adult ratio helps children to feel comfortable and encourages
socialization. We have an infant room for ages 6 weeks to 18 months, a toddler
room for ages 18 months to 3 years and a preschool room for ages 3 - 6. Age
groups meet in separate areas, but often have opportunities to visit. Children
are provided with opportunities for art, music and movement, stories, outdoor
play activities, and some quiet time, as well. Our two outdoor play areas
provide ample space and equipment for children to run, climb and ride.
