Several years ago, there was one large choir at Prince of Glory.
The size of this group began to dwindle over time as fewer and fewer people
could attend rehearsals every week. As an answer to this problem, a few small
choral groups were formed. The smaller groups didn't have to sing or rehearse
each week and it was easier to find a night when a few people could get together
and practice. Over time more groups have been formed by interested people.
The various groups, along with any interested soloists, sign up
for the specific Sundays that they would like to sing for. This system gives us
a rich variety in the types of music presented and involves a much larger number
of people in the music of our worship services.
The POG Ensemble consists of 8 to 12 voices singing a
variety of music. The Ensemble usually sings one Sunday per month.
The POG Quartet also presents a variety of music suitable
for a smaller group.
The POG Singers sing three to four times a year. Any
interested person is invited to join the group for two or three practices before
each performance. If you like to sing, but are not confident about your
abilities, this is still a group for you!
The POG Folk Choir sings occasionally and is also open to
anyone who would like to sing Folk music. No long term commitments are required!
The Junior Choir is open to children from the 3rd or 4th
grade through middle school. The group holds practices weekly and performs at
selected Sunday services. The Junior Choir has also been known to select a
musical play and perform it for the congregation. The last presentation was
"I Witness News: Live From Jericho" in June, 2002.

Anyone who would like to sing a solo at a Sunday service can
sign up for the week of their choice. We have experienced a wide variety of
music ranging from Classical to Gospel to Rock.

We encourage instrumental musicians to be involved in our
worship services. We regularly use organ, piano, and synthesizer at our
services. We also have several opportunities for others to be involved by
backing up soloists, playing instrumental pieces, or playing instead of the
organ and piano at a service. Some of the instruments that have been used in the
past include guitar, drums, dulcimer, saxophone, flute, clarinet, trumpet and cello.

The Christmas Musical is presented on the Sunday before
Christmas. The Cantata "Canticle of Joy" was presented in 2002 by a massed
choir with members from all of the vocal groups and additional members who don't
regularly sing with a group.
Music for our Ash Wednesday service is provided by a Combined
Choir, consisting of members of all the vocal groups together with anyone
else who is interested in participating.
Community Services are held occasionally in cooperation
with other churches in our area. These services usually offer the opportunity
for musicians from Prince of Glory to present a selection. There are also
occasions where we join with the choirs of our sister churches in a mass choir
presentation.
Folk Night Coffeehouse evenings are held occasionally.
Soloists, small groups, choirs, etc. sing traditional, contemporary, or their
own original folk music. Baked goods, a variety of teas, and, of course, coffee
are served. This has been a great evening of entertainment for those who have
attended.

We utilize cantors to assist the Pastor with the Communion
Service liturgy. A cantor also participates
in selected festival worship services. Anyone who is interested can be added to
our list of available cantors. Training is available if desired.
