Sunday Church School

Sunday School classes are available for children from age 3 through High School. Sunday Church School runs from September through May. Check the Worship Schedule on our Home Page for exact dates.

The Preschool and early Elementary classes are studying aspects of Lutheran worship during September and October. During November and December, they will be looking at Lutheran symbols, especially the symbols contained in the stained glass windows in our Sanctuary.

The late Elementary classes (4th through 6th grades) are taking their first look at Luther's Small Catechism.

The Middle School and High School curriculum is presented in a topic based discussion format. Topics range from Dealing with Peer Pressure to Good Decision Making and Christian Lifestyles. From January- April the 7-10th grade students will examine in detail the Passion Play, which they will then perform for a host Church on Palm Sunday, and our congregation on Good Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday Church School Adult Classes

Adult classes are offered during Sunday Church School from September through May. Check the Worship Schedule on our Home Page for exact dates.

Pastor Bill is leading the Adult Forum "These Things Matter: Part I: Proclaiming the Word". Have you ever wondered about why we do what we do in worship? Have you ever visited another church (even another Lutheran church?) And observed practices unfamiliar at POG? Have you ever wondered about the balance between local/congregational practices, and the larger tradition of the whole Church?

In this time of pastoral transition at POG, we have had an opportunity to observe different worship styles. For some, this diversity is refreshing. Others feel challenged by it. And all of us are, hopefully, interested in discussing what is important about:

-- Proclaiming the Word
-- Baptizing into Christ
-- Celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Join us for a new Adult Sunday School class at 10:00 am, April 6 through May 18, during which we will discuss how the Scriptures are proclaimed, and the Word of God set forth, in Lutheran worship. All are welcome and encouraged to attend, particularly if you wish to participate in discerning worship at POG.

Bible Study

An adult Bible Study is usually offered on a weekday evenings in the fall and again in the spring. A Bible Study at Noon is also available. These studies cover a variety of scripture and topics.

The Noon Bible Study is taking a look at C.S. Lewis and his book, "Mere Christianity". Check our calendar for specific class dates.

Our midweek topic during spring, 2008 is a study of Martin Luther's Small Catechism led by Pastor Bill. The class will be held on Tuesday evenings in May. If you haven’t blown the dust off your Small Catechism since Confirmation days, maybe it’s time for a refresher! Please watch for specific dates and times in the May issue of the Ark. Participants are encouraged to purchase a copy of A Contemporary Translation of Luther’s Small Catechism: Study Edition (not the pocket edition) from Augsburg Fortress, by clicking on this link or going to www.augsburgfortress.org and ordering item number 9780806600260. (or you can press the “education link” and type “contemporary small catechism study” in the search space).

Scene from Passion Play - Jesus Teaching the DisciplesConfirmation

Confirmation is the opportunity for young people to confirm the promises that were made by them or for them at their baptism. Our confirmation program allows 9th and 10th graders to explore what their faith and church really mean to them. Concepts are presented, but serious discussion is encouraged to help the participants think through the application of these concepts to their lives. The youth are encouraged to voice their questions and concerns on any subject.

The overall Confirmation program is multi-faceted, including confirmation classes, involvement with regular Sunday Church School and Worship, and participation in the Passion Play. Classes are held approximately twice per month. Check the calendar of events for specific dates. The Passion Play is presented every year on Good Friday. We also take the Passion Play on the road, presenting it to another congregation. During rehearsals and presentation of the Passion Play, the participants end up memorizing the passion story, which is the heart of the New Testament.

Preschool/Daycare

Prince of Glory offers a morning Preschool program for children ages 3-6 (not yet in school). Classes meet September - May from 9AM - 11:30AM. The 3-year-old class, which meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings focuses on basic skills, concepts and socialization. The 4-year-old class, which meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, prepares children for kindergarten entry. Both classes are taught with the idea that learning should be fun. Children are encouraged to be creative and to try new things. A wide variety of activities are offered everyday to stimulate children's imaginations.

Prince of Glory's daycare program operates year-round from 7AM - 6PM, Monday - Friday. We offer developmentally appropriate activities designed to meet the needs of each child from age 6 weeks to 6 years. Our caring staff and low child-to-adult ratio helps children to feel comfortable and encourages socialization. We have an infant room for ages 6 weeks to 18 months, a toddler room for ages 18 months to 3 years and a preschool room for ages 3 - 6. Age groups meet in separate areas, but often have opportunities to visit. Children are provided with opportunities for art, music and movement, stories, outdoor play activities, and some quiet time, as well. Our two outdoor play areas provide ample space and equipment for children to run, climb and ride.

More information, including current tuition and fees, can be found on our Preschool/Daycare page.
