Outside worship opportunities
for holy week!

Elsewhere in this issue of the Ark, you can find the worship schedule for Holy Week services at Prince of Glory. In addition, there are two other worship opportunities for you in our community and in our Southeast Michigan Synod.

1. SYNOD CHRISM MASS - a Chrism Mass is a Service of Holy Communion held during Holy Week, at which the Bishop blesses oils to be used for anointing the baptized, the sick, and catechumens (those preparing for baptism). The Southeast Michigan Synod Chrism Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 10:30 am, at Christ Lutheran Church, 2411 Iroquois, Detroit. Bishop John Schreiber will preside. This is a good opportunity to meet fellow ELCA Lutherans from other parishes in our area, and to experience a larger expression of the Church beyond our own congregation.

2. ECUMENICAL GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE - POG will join other Madison Heights area churches, representing several denominations, in an mid-day service of the Seven Last Words of Christ from the Cross. Pastor Bill will reflect on the Word, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" Good Friday, March 21, 12:00 noon, Madison Heights United Methodist Church, 246 E. 11-Mile Rd.

The Vigil of EASTER

The Vigil of Easter will be celebrated on Saturday, March 22, beginning at 7:30 pm. This ancient service is the climax of the whole church year, and the rest of the church year flows out of, and into, this service.

Last year, we celebrated a fuller version of this service, with a service of readings and a service of Baptism. The Easter Vigil is the traditional time at which adults were baptized into Christ, and even when there are no baptisms scheduled, it is appropriate for the congregation to affirm their own baptism.

This year, we will celebrate an even fuller form of the Easter Vigil. The service will begin with lighting the Paschal Candle, followed by a candlelight procession into the darkened church, reminding us of the empty tomb. We will hear the pastor chant a hymn that celebrates all of God's saving acts which have their fulfillment in the Resurrection. When the service ends, we will be hungering to return the following morning to celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter!

You are invited to come and celebrate this service which is rich, joyful, and rather different from a normal Sunday service.
