THE ARK

APRIL  2008

That's why it's not just enough to believe in Jesus in my, or your, own personal way. Those two disciples on the road to Emmaus had their own ideas of just what kind of Messiah Jesus was supposed to be, and how it was supposed to be. Not only were they disappointed, in their blindness they couldn't see who Jesus truly was. It was only after Jesus opened their minds to understand God's Word, and after He fed them with Himself in the breaking of bread, that they understood.
This is why the Church's worship is so important to us. If I tell myself I can be a Christian on my own, without the Church, I am deluded. I cannot. I will just look to Jesus to be the kind of Messiah I think He should be. And I'm sure I would be dead wrong. But in the gathered body of baptized believers, Christ opens our minds to understand the Scriptures, and reveals Himself to us in the breaking of bread. We come to worship to receive Christ on
His terms, rather than on ours.
Don't stop coming to worship after Easter Sunday. There's still lots of mind-opening and bread-breaking to come!

   Alleluia! Christ is Risen Indeed!

MARCH COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

n Pastor Bill will take six weeks of modified parental leave time, as stipulated in his letter of call, upon the birth of his and Pr. Lauren's son. One week will be taken at the time of birth (early August) and the remainder in late September and October. During this time, Pr. Bill will continue to lead worship, council & congregational meetings, and will be available for emergencies, but will not keep regular office hours or schedule routine meetings or appointments.

n We are awaiting results from the energy audit [which since have arrived]

n Colleen Porter was nominated to fill the council seat for Stewardship.

n Pat Wall proposed using money set aside from the Geo. Fortek bequest to be used to hire/call a youth worker on a seasonal basis. A committee was set up to investigate this possibility.

n Donations from the Lenten soup suppers will go to benefit the youth work camp.

n The age of Confirmation instruction was changed to begin in 8th grade. Beginning in the 2008-09 school year, those being instructed will include 8th graders, 9th graders, and those students remaining who await instruction in 10th grade.
